WWD-3

WWD-3

WWD-3 is a 3 MW utility class turbine that offers a reduced energy production cost and is suitable for both land based and near-shore installations. With the option of a 109 m rotor diameter, it can provide higher energy yields at lower wind speed sites, while the 90 m rotor diameter option is for higher wind speed sites (IEC wind class II).

WinWinD's medium speed concept and integrated power unit ensure the reliability of our wind turbines. Our 3 MW turbines are type certified.

What is WWD-3?

WWD-3 is a pitch regulated upwind wind turbine with active yaw and three-blade rotor. The turbine consist of three main parts:

  1. Rotor - 3 blades and hub with electrical pitch control
  2. Integrated power unit - Two row tapered roller bearing, planetary gear and variable speed generator with permanent magnets
  3. Nacelle - Frequency converter, transformer and accessories

High reliability through redundancy

High reliability is in-built to the WWD-3 turbine, with two 1.5 MW converters running independently in parallel, which means that if one converter fails, the turbine will still be operational with the remaining converter. The converters' cooling systems and auxiliaries are also independent and redundant. Converter losses are minimised and the thermal load is reduced as the turbine only operates with one converter during low winds when there is only partial generation.

WWD Advantages

  • 30% less moving parts than traditional geared system
  • Loads bypass gears and generators
  • Low maintenance cost
  • Ideal for low wind speed sites
  • High reliability through redundancy
