Environment

Protection of the environment is bread-and-butter for all of us at WinWinD. The wind turbines manufactured by WinWinD help our customers in producing renewable and CO2-free energy for their own clients. However, even though our products promote sustainable development and clean values, it is not enough. We consider the merits of sustainable development and environmental effects in all our operations, starting from the recycling of packaging material on the shop floor and reaching all the way to reducing the carbon emissions of business travel. We understand the value of our planet and want to preserve it for our future generations.

We have implemented an Environmental Management System based on standard ISO 14001, which enables us to systematically estimate our energy consumption, emissions and the overall load on the environment caused by our operations. The main goal of the system is to continuously reduce our load on the environment by implementing improvements and corrective measures. We have established processes for evaluating the current situation, discovering the needs for improvements, implementing corrective actions and following up on the results. WinWinD was granted ISO 14001 certificate for our environmental management system in Europe in March 2010.

Environmental aspects

Environmental aspects and significant environmental impacts are assessed and updated annually. The needed corrective and preventive actions are then prioritized and acted upon.

The most significant environmental impacts of our operations are:

  • Traveling to project sites and visiting our customers spread across the globe
  • Energy consumption, electricity and the heating and cooling of premises
  • Waste

Concrete actions can and have been done to reduce all of the above-mentioned items.

Environmental actions

Our main actions and continuous improvements to control our environmental effects are:

  • Managing our business traveling for fewer and longer trips
  • Using video conferencing and teleconferencing
  • Car and travel policy encourages the use of cars and vehicles that produce less emissions
  • Using renewable energy, such as wind power and hydropower
  • Energy efficiency as a criteria when selecting and using computers and tools
  • Energy efficient lighting systems in our premises
  • Projects for preventing waste generation
  • Effective waste management system and waste sorting trainings for efficient recycling
