Summa Wind Park inaugurated

7 Sep, 2010

The first wind park in Hamina, Finland was inaugurated 6.9.2010 on a beautiful and calm autumn day. The celebration was a success with plenty of prestigious guests. Finland’s Minister of Defence, Jyri Häkämies was the honorary speaker and other speakers included Hannu Muhonen, Mayor of Hamina; Timo Toikka, CEO of Haminan Energia and Ilkka Hakala, WinWinD’s Group CEO. All parties were satisfied with the delivery project and its outcome; The Wind Park is important for the area in many ways. The Park has already woken plenty of interest both locally and internationally. The region is ready for the changing world; the Kymenlaakso area will see hundreds of more megawatts of wind energy installed in the future.

The Summa Wind Park consists of four 3 MW turbines delivered by WinWinD for Haminan Energia, a local energy company. The annual electricity output of the park is approximately 30 GWh, which is more than one fifth of Haminan Energia’s annual electricity sales.  The turbines were assembled only a couple of kilometers away from the Wind Park at WinWinD’s Hamina factory. The construction work started in October 2009 and the turbines were erected during spring and summer 2010. The site is very suitable for wind power; the shoreline faces south west and the prevailing winds. The Summa turbines are WWD-3 turbines with 100 m rotor and a hybrid tower made of concrete and steel.
